LEROY — A productive summer season for the Pine River 15-and-under baseball team comes to a close Wednesday at Benzie Central.

Sunday, Pine River was home in a 20-6 win over Tri County.

Grant Ruppert had five hits and two RBIs for the Bucks, followed by Tristian Nelson, Hunter Eseline and Mac Peterson with two hits. Peterson also had four RBIs.

Dylan Loop, Matt Stone and Steven Hilkowski had hits.

Preston Prosch had a strong game defensively and running the bases. Coach Brent Ruppert’s younger son, Lane Ruppert played to fill out the roster and did a strong job defensively at second base and in the outfield.

Grant Ruppert pitched the first four innings for Pine River and had five strikeouts and allowed two hits. Eseline pitched two scoreless innings and Hilkowski pitched an inning.

“It was probably the best hitting game we’ve had,” said Brent Ruppert. “The kids came out and were ready to hit. They had a lot of fun hitting the ball hard for nice solid hits.”

Pine River had 12 tuns in the third inning, four runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. TC had one run in the third and five in the seventh.

“The younger kids with their first experiences at the high school level are picking things up like how to position themselves, where to go with the baseball and are becoming more comfortable at the plate,” Ruppert said.
