Pine River baseball team extends winning streak to six games

LEROY — Pine River’s baseball team swept McBain Northern Michigan Christian 10-0 and 17-5 in a pair of five-inning games on Friday.

Grant Ruppert was the winning pitcher in the first game, going the distance and allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one. Mason Powell and Dylan Loop both had a double and single. Powell had two RBI and Loop had one. Matt Goodenow had a two-run homer while Marcus Washington had a double and Raden Holmes had a double and RBI.

Holmes was the winning pitcher, striking out two and allowing six hits. Powell had two hits and two RBIs. Washington and Powell both had two hits and one RBI. Matt Stone and Brad Holmes both had a double and RBI.

Pine River also won two games on April 26 at Marion. They won the first one 9-3. Ruppert was the winning pitcher. Dylan Loop and Matt Goodenow both had two hits Raden Holmes had a double and RBI, and Marcus Washington also had a hit.

Holmes was the winning pitcher in the second game, allowing no earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, and striking out five. Washington had three hits, including two doubles. Powell had a double and two RBI. Loop and Luke Hill both had a single and RBI.

“We played really good defense, I thought,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “We ripped the ball up and down the lineup. Tonight, we had two guys, Nick Shimel and Andrew Park get back playing and it was good to get them back. We’re still missing Tyler Wing.”

Pine River (4-0, 7-5) has won six straight. The Bucks were home Tuesday against McBain. Pine River is home with Mesick Thursday and has its home invitational on Saturday.
