LEROY — Pine River’s baseball and softball teams both defeated Marion and Evart on Saturday to win the combined Osceola Classic title.

It was the first time for the annual event.

“It’s not just who wins the boys tournament and who wins the girls tournament,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “It’s who wins the overall (title), a combination of girls and boys. Next year, Evart will host the tournament and hopefully Reed City will be in it so all of Osceola County is involved.”

Reed City officials cited a scheduling conflict from a Saturday event for not being able to participate.

Pine River won the first game 12-2 over Evart in baseball. Grant Ruppert was the winning pitcher. He went three innings and had one earned run, one strikeout and one hit.

Mason Powell had three hits and three RBI, Matt Goodenow had a double and two RBI, Ruppert had a single and two RBI. Matt Stone  had a double.

Pine River beat Marion 11-8. Raden Holmes was the winning pitcher in four innings of work. He had four strikeouts and allowed five hits.

Hitters for the Bucks were Marcus Washington with two hits and three RBIs. Tristen Nelson had two hits and an RBI. Holmes had a double and two RBIs. Dylan Loop, Ruppert and Luke Hill all had singles and RBIs.

“We’re starting to get healthy,” Ruppert said. “Everyone had a good day at the tournament.”
