LEROY — Pine River had another big season in baseball with a 32-4 season which included another Division 3 district championship.

Five players earned both first-team all-district and all-Highland Conference honors: seniors Lucas Harris, Alex Knapp, Mitch McDonald and Greg Park and sophomore Mason Powell. McDonald was all-conference and all-district three years each, Harris and Park were both two years and Knapp and Powell were first-year honorees.

Harris, a third baseman, batted .384 with 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 28 RBI.

“He was our spark plug all year in the leadoff spot,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “He’s a threat to run on any pitch and a very versatile player in the field. He’s one of our captains and a great three-year starter for our program.”

Knapp, a catcher, batted .286 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and 18 RBIs.

“He developed into a solid catcher, especially in terms of blocking,” Ruppert said. “He was also a very tough out at the plate with some big hits for us throughout the season.”

McDonald, a pitcher, had a 1.24 ERA with an 8-1 record, 43 hits and 15 walks. He batted .367 with nine doubles, 26 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

“He’s one of our most versatile players and top pitchers,” Ruppert said. “He’s one of our captains and our leader on the field. He played through an injury in the later part of the season. He’s a great four-year starter for our program.”

Park, a pitcher, had an 11-2 record with one save and 1.11 ERA. He batted .250 with 17 RBIs.

“He was one of the best pitchers in the area,” Ruppert said. “He had a consistent effort and control throughout the season.”

Powell, an outfielder, batted .354 with six doubles, four triples, one home run and 26 RBIs.

“He had one of the best power bats on our team,” Ruppert said. “He switched to outfield for a majority of the season and did a great job defensively. He also did a nice job pitching this year.”
