
LEROY — Pine River placed four players on the first team and one on the honorable mention list for the all-Highland Conference baseball squad that was recently announced.
The first team includes Bucks senior first baseman Garrett Long, who batted.409 with 10 doubles, a triple and home run, plus 33 RBIs.
“He had a nice year,” said Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert. “He did a decent job at first base. He fielded .943.”
Junior shortstop Skyler Nelson batted .385 while leading the team with 45 hits and 20 RBIs.
“He did a nice job for us,” Shawn Ruppert said.
Pine River junior catcher Devin Ruppert batted .314 with 23 RBIs and 23 stolen bases,
“He had a nice season pitching and catching for us,” Ruppert said.
On the mound, Ruppert was 6-1 with a 1.07 ERA and 104 strikeouts and 19 walks.
The other first-teamer was Lincoln Erickson with a 9-4 record and 1.27 ERA with 164 strikeouts and 41 walks.
Shawn Ruppert noted that Erickson and Devin Ruppert combined for 250 strikeouts. Derrick Waldfogel, a senior outfielder, batted .386 with four doubles, two triples, a home run and 21 RBIs.
Ruppert is planning on playing some summer games with his team including some Wednesday contests with Reed City.
