Pine River athletic officials excited with success of new concession stand

LEROY — The fall sports season has ended at Pine River and the football teams won’t be returning until next August.

But a brand new facility at the athletic complex will continue to be featured when the spring season comes.

The new concession stand with larger concessions and restroom areas was available for the fall season and will be used for spring sports.

Groundbreaking for the new Pine River concession stand was in the fall. The new facility was constructed following fundraising by the Buck Pride group, which has focused on supplying various facility needs for the sports program.

“It went great,” Buck Pride member and former Pine River football coach Chad Phillips said. “We opened up late (for home football games), which was the only downside. We couldn’t get done in time. We weren’t open for the first home football game and had to improvise. Once it was open, things went pretty smooth. It seems like people were excited. It was like the new first thing in Pine River in a long time.”

Official groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted during the season.

The stand was also used for cross country home meets.

“We got rid of an old utility shed that was down there and was an eyesore and incorporated that into this one, and put in a new drinking foundation and water bucket filling station,” Phillips said. “Everything is pretty nice.”

The former restrooms and concession stand was located below the pressbox. Phillips said Buck Pride is hoping maybe that area could be used for a football team room in the future.

“That would help us out because our regular lockerroom is more and more crowded,” Phillips said.

The new building will also be used during the baseball, softball and track seasons in the spring.
