LEROY — Pine River and Evart will again be competing in the Highland Conference for volleyball this season but will delve into tournament action before the end of this month.

Practices for volleyball teams start on Wednesday.

Pine River has all-day sessions set for next week.

For the practice days this week, “Officially, it’s tryouts, but I have a good idea on the final results,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said.

She’s anticipating between 10 to 12 girls on the squad.

“I have six returners,” Dennis said. “A couple of them were starters last year. A couple of them played AAU in the spring. We have a mix of old and new.”

Evart’s volleyball team isn’t set to start until Aug. 26 with a match at Farwell. Home matches are set for Aug. 28 with Coleman and Sept. 2 with Harrison. Evart plays at Hesperia Sept. 6.

Reed City is at Ludington Aug. 22 and at Cadillac Aug. 28 for invitational action. The first home match is Sept. 9 against Tri County.
