REED CITY — Jeffery Phenix has had many special moments for the Reed City baseball team this season, but he's likely to remember one in particular for a long time.

He smacked a 3-run homer in a recent Central State Activities Association Gold Division game over Tri County that helped Reed City win the game, take the sweep and clinch a league title tie.

This marks Phenix's junior season. He had a strong first two seasons, which he said went "not bad." But entering 2017, Phenix put his goals clearly; "I'd like to win more."

So far, the Coyotes have accomplished that.

Phenix has been a catcher and infielder.

"I'm able to keep the ball in front of me," he said, adding he's been working on getting a strong arm for his throws.

Deep pitching was expected to help the Coyotes this season. "We've got four guys who can throw strikes," Phenix said.

Phenix said being patient would be critical for him to have a strong season.

Phenix played football and then started working on baseball. Coming into the season, he liked the core of the team and the quality of players on the bench. He expected to have a strong team.

Reed City is at Mason County Central this weekend for district action.
