Pheasants Forever banquet set for March 19

EVART — Mark Sochocki is thinking about pheasants right now.

That might be because the Evart resident and executive director of the Big Rapids Housing Commission has announced that the 22nd annual banquet of the Mecosta County Chapter of Pheasants Forever has been set for March 19 at the Eagles Hall in Big Rapids.

Sochocki is chairman of the county chapter.

“This is how we raise the money to do the chapter’s work,” Sochocki said. “We do a lot of habitat work within Mecosta and Osceola counties.

The banquet usually attracts between 200 and 250 individuals.

“They come from all over the state of Michigan,” Sochocki said. “I think the next closest (chapter) would be in Isabella County.”

Sochocki said earlier this month he’s done some fishing in the past few weeks.

“We were over in Saginaw Bay a couple of weeks ago actually trolling in a boat and did well with a number of (walleyes),” Sochocki said. “I went to the Thumb (recently) and did some pheasant hunting. My partner and I shot three roosters in the area, which is actually pretty good for this time of year.”
