Pelton signs with Grand Valley
REED CITY — It had been a long-time goal for Reed City tight end and defensive lineman Anthony Pelton to become a Grand Valley Laker.
A week ago, the Coyote senior achieved this goal.
Pelton was among six players on the CSAA Gold and district championship Reed City team to sign national letters of intent on Feb. 6. Pelton had earlier verbally declared his intention to sign with Grand Valley.
Pelton was the Pioneer’s Defensive Player of the Year. He had 42 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, one forced fumble, two sacks and one pass breakup. He was first-team all-CSAA and all-state.
“The coach emailed me and wanted me to call him and had my scholarship and everything, and I got super excited,” Pelton said. “He told me we want you on the team and to play for the Lakers. That was an exciting moment for me. Deep down, I always wanted to play for Grand Valley. It’s the right fit for me.
“I’ve always admired the Grand Rapids area in general. They have great facilities. The team chemistry there is amazing. The campus is amazing. It was a perfect fit for me.”
The Reed City football program “pushes you to your limits and makes sure you’re ready for whatever life throws at you,” Pelton said. “They make sure you have the mental and physical toughness to deal with it all.”
