EVART — Kirsten Parsons is looking for another big season in the throws for the Evart girls track team as a senior.

She returns in the shot put and discus for the Wildcats for her fourth season. Her previous best has been 32-8 1/4 for the shot put and in the high 80s for the discus. She’s been a regional and conference champ in the shot put in the past and has qualified for state.

Parsons has yet to place at state and wouldn’t mind seeing that happen this year.

This season, she’s hoping for 35 feet in the shot put and 105 feet in the discus.

“It will take lots of strength work in the shot put and technique work in discus,” Parsons said. “Last year was kind of a rough year in the shot put. I stayed just about the same as I was the year before. But every other year, I’ve done better in shot and discus.”

The poor weather the team has endured so far hasn’t really impacted her in practices.

“We always go outside,” Parsons said.

Looking at the conference schedule, Parsons anticipates facing strong competition in the throws for Manton, plus Addi Schumacher from Beal City.

“There’s a lot of freshmen coming in who will be really good,” Parsons said.

Evart competed indoors last week at Grand Valley.  The Wildcats have an outdoor meet set for April 17 against Mesick.
