Park playing key role for strong Pine River team

LEROY —  Greg Park has been working to make his senior season as a Pine River basketball player as memorable as possible.

The Bucks entered this week at 15-3.

“We use our entire team and everyone made a great contribution,” he said after a recent game. “I feel that helps us when we can still function as a team with our second and third string and it doesn’t matter.”

As a starter, Park has been out there for rebounding.

“They’ve been wanting me to shoot more this year,” Park said. “I’ve already scored more points than I did last year.”

His best contest was a road game with 15 against Beal City. He considers himself to be an effective shooter anywhere on the court.

“We’re playing really well,” he said. “Ever since we (defeated) McBain, we make it our catalyst for the rest of the season, and to be strong going into districts. It’s defense and rebounding. If we win the district championship, it will be because of our defense.”

Now’s the best time for any team to be playing its best basketball. Park likes where the Bucks are at.

“We’re playing pretty well,” he said.

The Bucks played home Tuesday against Evart and have their regular-season finale against Beal City. The districts open next Wednesday at McBain against the home team.
