Park off to strong start for Pine River

LEROY —  Andrew Park is a junior this season at 130 pounds for Pine River’s wrestling team and continues to score a lot of points for the Bucks.

Park was at 112 last season when the Bucks went to the state semifinals. Park took fourth at the individual state finals.

“We had an all right year,” he said. ‘I felt we could have gone a little further. This year is definitely our year. We have a lot of people returning. From 103 all the way up, we’re pretty solid. We don’t have any weak spots.”

Park was 10-1 as of late December. He lost in the finals of the Marquette Invitational.

“I felt I should have done better but (my opponent) was tough,” Park said.

Park would like to make it to the state final and be on the awards podium this season.

“We want to work together as a team and always be supportive,” Park said. “It will take running every morning, extra drills every day and self discipline.”

Park indicated he has a lot of work to do but noted he worked a lot over the summer and has seen improvement.  He wants to get better on the top position.

New Lothrop and Hudson will be among the top teams the Bucks will see down the road, Park indicated.
