Paige Williams shines for RC track
REED CITY — Paige Williams had an extremely impressive freshman season as a track and field athlete at Reed City.
She’s hoping it will be even more impressive as a sophomore sprinter.
Williams is focusing on the sprints and relays. During the indoor season in the 60-meter dash, she took first place at the Central Michigan University Chippewa Indoor Invitational in 8.42 seconds.
So far this season, she’s had one outdoor meet when the Coyotes were in a CSAA meet against Fremont, Newaygo and Tri County. She was first in the 100-meter dash (14.60) and 200 meters (29.08) and second in the 4x100 relay (58.31) team, which she anchored.
As a freshman, Williams was second in the CSAA Gold meet and earlier in the season had a personal record of 13.37 seconds in the 100 meters. Her PR was 27.9 in the 200 meters.
“I didn’t usually like the 200 so I tried it last year,” Williams said. “This year, I want to, in the 100, get more firsts and seconds than I did last year, and get closer to the record.”
Williams indicated she’s strong in the whole race from start to finish.
“I need to be strong when I take off,” Williams said. “In the 200, I want to go faster. I think I could push myself harder. I have a good finish.”
In the sprints, “I think they’re going to be pretty strong,” Williams said. “There’s a lot of girls and the upcoming freshmen are pretty fast. I think our 4by1 and 4by2 (relays will be good).”
Reed City was set to be home against Big Rapids on Tuesday.
“I think we’ll be good this season,” Williams said.
