Oehrli keeps up the pace for Coyotes

REED CITY — Joe Oehrli continues to have a strong senior season cross country season for Reed City.

Oehrli was the winner in 17:10 at Manistee last Thursday with a time of 17:10.

“I felt that I did OK, not my best,” he said, adding that his best time has been 16:04 at the Michigan State Invitational. He’s also had a 16:24 this year.

“I’ve been pretty happy,” Oehrli said. “I still have some improvement to do.”

Oehrli indicated that the start of his race has probably been his strongest part. He’s been focusing on improving his second mile and is looking forward to upcoming Central State Activities Association and regional meets.

The Coyotes haven’t had a full team this season, which Oehrli acknowledged hasn’t been the best situation.

For the Reed City girls at Manistee, Amanda Stieg placed eighth in 25:48 and Emily McIntosh was ninth in 26:26.

Saturday, the Coyotes are at Pine River.

The Cecil Burch Invitational is set for Saturday at Pine River. The host school, Reed City and Evart will be among the 17 participating teams.

“I think my boys are coming on,” said Evart coach Andy Eichelberger. “We have to work on that fifth spot to be competitive at the state meet.”

The girls race starts at 9 a.m. and the boys at 9:30 a.m.

“We don’t have many home meets so our fans can watch us,” said PR coach Ross Vrieze. “This will also cap off our homecoming week.”
