REED CITY — Reed City’s Joe Oehrli prevailed at Saturday’s Chippewa Hills cross country invitational in 16:06. nipping Hesperia’s Jeff Cherry.

“That’s a good time on that course, beating (the record) by 21 seconds,” said Reed City coach Brad Smith.

For the Reed City girls, Amanda Steig was 18th in 23:44 and Emily McIntosh was 19th in 23:48.7.

The Evart boys were first in Division 4 with 29 points compared to 32 for Hesperia. David Zinger won with a time of 16:07.

In the girls race, Hesperia was first at 20 and Evart second at 45.

Katelyne VanMourik was first in 20:22 while Grace Hamilton was 10th in 22:06. Also for Evart, Brianna Connor was 14th in 23:52, Taylor McLachlan 16th in 24:23 and Kaitlyn Parsons 17th in 24:33.

Reed City also ran Monday at the Central Montcalm preregional.

“There was nothing spectacular there,” Smith said. “I had (Joe) pacing another runner. We want to get ready for regionals on Saturday.”

In regional action Saturday, Reed City and Pine River are both at Benzie Central in Division 3 while Evart is also at Benzie for Division 4.

Runners and teams will be trying to qualify for the state finals on Nov. 5 at Michigan International Speedway near Jackson.
