REED CITY — Newaygo defeated Reed City 4-1 on Monday in Central State Activities Gold Division action.

Lauren Voelker scored for Reed City, assisted by Liza Emington. Brenna Westoff was goalkeeper.

Last Wednesday, Tri County defeated Reed City 8-0 for the second time this season in Central State Activities Association action.

But it was different in the rematch.

The first time, Tri County won 8-0 at halftime and it was 2-0 at halftime this game. Grace Miller scored with 6:07 to play to end the game with an 8-0 win.

Tri County had an 8-0 victory earlier this season at home against the Coyotes and posted the eighth goal late in the first half.

Both teams endured a steady rain throughout the game and temperatures in the low 40s.

“This was by far the worst, between the cold and wind and everything, it was nasty,” Reed City coach Bryan Hall said. “But we played well. They mercied us in the first half last time.”

The difference this time, Hall was “defensively, we picked them up better. The rain does equalize things out a little. I thought we picked them up better coming in and stayed with them. We did make some substitutions. Brenna Westhoff played awesome at keeper. She was really on tonight. I think that was part of the difference.”

Savannah Wilson, Michalia Sprik and Lena Thompson also scored for Tri County (3-1, 5-2).

“Reed City played really well today,” Tri County coach Vic Matulis said. “Their keeper was awesome. I thought we played well. We moved the ball well.”

Macey Matulis was the keeper for Tri County.

“Our defense was rock solid,” Matulis said. “They moved the ball around. You don’t get many shots on our defense.”

Reed City is at Big Rapids next Wednesday.
