LEROY — Kassy Nelson has played no small role in her sophomore season in the successes recorded by the Pine River Bucks who entered this week at 15-1.

The regular season will be on for two more weeks and Nelson likes the way the team’s been playing. She’s been among the top scorers.

“We keep improving and our game just keeps getting better and better,” she said. “I’m playing pretty good as an individual. There’s always room for improvement, no matter who you are as a player.

“I feel best abut my shooting ability. I want to work on changing pace and being able to stop and get started.”

Pine River has beaten McBain twice during the regular season, but Nelson expects to see them at district time.

“Everytime we played them it’s a competitive game and a fun game to play,” Nelson said. “We look forward to playing them. We might see them again. If we keep doing what we’re doing, run the floor and play good defense and have our offense clicking, we’re a good team and like each other. We’re good friends on and off the court. We can work well as a group.”

Nelson had a strong freshman season on the varsity but has picked up her game by a few notches.

“I’ve improved in many aspects of my game,” Nelson said. “I’m more confident as a sophomore as I was as a freshman. My defense is stronger. I’m a more confident player.”
