Mund looking for strong finish with Coyotes

REED CITY — Reed City’s regular season for boys basketball has ended but senior Matt Mund and his teammates are bidding for a long postseason.

The Coyotes ended the regular season at 12-8 and were off last week. They will play Harrison at Big Rapids in a Class B district semifinal on Wednesday. The title game will be Friday. Reed City is defending district champs.

Mund was out for about three weeks after recovering from a concussion sustained at Manistee following a collision after going for the ball.

“I’m back to where I want to be,” he said late in the season. “We’re doing a lot better now. I think we’re getting our stuff together.”

When that occurs, it means simply passing the ball, playing good defense and shooting well.

Mund’s role has stayed the same: shoot, pass and play defense.

It’s Mund’s second varsity season, and right now, he feels he’s playing his best basketball. The Coyotes have done a good job with their depth and doing a variety of things, he said.

“We’re all playing as a team,” Mund said.

The Coyotes lost two close games to Big Rapids during the regular season. The two teams could meet in the district finals.

“It will be tough,” Mund said, when asked earlier this season for the key to beating a team like Big Rapids. “We just have to play good defense and have good ball pressure.
