EVART – Evart opened the season with a 34-20 win over Beaverton and players like Kaden DuBreuil are confident the wins can keep coming.

DuBreuil is a senior for Evart and is in his second varsity season.

“Kaden is the hammer,” Evart coach Pat Craven said. “He’s very intelligent and we call Kaden the professor because he’s very scholarly. He can talk to all the guys and tell them what they ought to be doing. He’s very good in doing what we ask him to do”

“Last year as a team we did really good (7-3) but at the end of the year Cole (Hopkins) and Bryant (Calderon) our two top running backs got hurt and our team seemed to get worn down,” DuBreuil said.

He’s a left guard and nose guard this season. He starts both ways. Last year, he started at left guard.

“As a blocker, I feel my strength is I’m a lot shorter than other players so I’m able to get under the block a lot easier,” DuBreuil said. “On defense, being so low and co compact, it’s easier for me. I feel I’m better on offensive side. You have to be smarter on the offensive line.

“Most of our guys are returning but we’re missing a key piece in Sam Bailey and Alex Cornell (from graduation)”

Evart opens Highland Conference action on Thursday at home with Roscommon.

“I think our team is going to be really good,” DuBreuil said. “I think our strength will be our skill position. Our offensive line is going to be really good. I think our left side is better than our right but our right side will be good. I think we’ll be more of a passing team but that will open it up for our run game.”

DuBreuil did a lot of football in the offseason to get ready for 2022.
