McCurry set for his second of three sports seasons

REED CITY — Bryan McCurry is among the three-sport athletes at Pine River who is set to go from one season to another.

But it was an eventful football season that ended for McCurry a few weeks ago. He played varsity as a freshman. He played JV his first game, then was moved to the varsity.

He played inside linebacker and offensive tackle for the Bucks. He started on offense and saw several snaps on defense.

“I was nervous, excited and scared,” McCurry said of his move to the varsity. He felt comfortable after about two weeks.

“They hit a lot harder,” McCurry said of the varsity level. “I feel more comfortable after getting a couple of games under my belt.”

McCurry said inside linebacker was his best position, with the specific role of not allowing anyone to get past the line of scrimmage

McCurry had a fumble recovery against Mancelona in week No. 2.

Pine River was 4-5 after starting out 0-2.

“It was crazy,” McCurry said. “We had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of injuries. it was next man up.”

He will be in wrestling this winter and will play baseball in the spring. His older brother Tyler was also a football player and wrestler for Pine River. Bryan indicated wrestling was probably his best sport.
