LEROY — Pine River’s football team is off to an 0-2 start, but players like Bryan McCurry are confident the Bucks can still win a lot of games.

The Bucks lost to Morley Stanwood on Thursday 32-13.

McCurry is one of the small amount of players returning from the 2016 squad that went to the state semifinals.

“On offense, I’ve been the fullback and our HBack, the lead blocker,” he said. “I’m able to lower my head and run through people.”

McCurry is an inside linebacker on defense.

“I think I’m playing all right,” he said. “I have to improve on my speed and angles.”

McCurry saw some improvement for the Bucks from the week one loss to Kalkaska. But he acknowledged the team needed to cut down on mental errors, including penalties.

“The whole first half, we were one block away from a whole lot of big plays,” McCurry said. “We have to cut down the little things that are hurting us.”

Pine River is home on Friday against Evart.
