LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team will be getting another shot at Highland Conference champion McBain in a Class C semifinal district showdown today at Mesick.

The Bucks earned the shot at McBain with a 66-32 win over host Mesick on Friday night. Jamie Justin had 16 points and Molly Motzer 12 for the Bucks. Motzer had eight rebounds and Miranda Nelson had 11 points.

Against McBain, “we have to be more disciplined and convert a few more opportunities,” said Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert.

In the regular-season finale, Pine River lost 43-37 to McBain, Justin had 11 points and seven boards followed by Nelson with 11 points. Hailey Raymond had 10 rebounds for the Bucks.

On Feb. 23, the Bucks lost to Manton 53-50. Motzer had 22 points for the Bucks.

“We didn’t play well, we should have won that game,” Ruppert said. “At McBain, I thought we played well. We have to make more shots.”

Pine River’s boys basketball team fell to 9-9 with a 57-44 loss to Sacred Heart Saturday at Mount Pleasant. The Irish were up 30-23 at halftime.
