REED CITY — Mason Bush is among the Reed City football players anxious to have a banner season as a senior.

It’s his second varsity season. Reed City is at home on Friday with Montague.

“Last year went pretty well,” Bush said. “We made it to the semifinals.”

He indicated it was a smooth transition personally for him from junior varsity to varsity.

“I practiced a lot with varsity at the beginning of the season,” he said. “It went pretty good.”

He’s a fullback on offense with blocking and ball carrying as his assignments depending on the plays. Bush will focus on being a straight-ahead runner trying to get as much yardage as he can. He’s capable of fighting off tackles and sneaking through the small holes.

Bush is a linebacker on defense.

“I’m there to fill the gaps and work hard and go at anything outside and get the tackle,” he said.

The Coyotes lost 48-14 to open the season to Montague last year, but then won 11 straight before falling in the state semifinals.

“We’re working twice as hard as we did last year,” Bush said. “We’re going in with the mentality we want to beat Montague that first week. We can’t have mistakes or any cramping. We have to be in shape.”
