LEROY – Pine River has enjoyed more offense on the soccer field this season with the likes of Eric Martin who has been finding the back of the net for the Bucks.

Martin had a big day in a recent loss to Big Rapids Crossroads, scoring two goals for the Bucks.

“I just took it to the goal and made the best possible shot I could,” Martin said after the game. “But we got outhustled and got off to a slow start.”

The Bucks have had some success, “But we’ve had some bad games where we fell apart,” Martin added.

He’s a forward and defensive specialist for the Bucks.

“I’m more there to distribute the ball, if I can,” he said.

A senior, Martin is in his fourth high school season of soccer. It’s his best season so far.

“It’s a lot of offseasn work and a different mentality,” he said. “Hopefully, we’ll win more games and prove we can compete against these bigger schools. It will take a lot of practice, team communication and teamwork.”

Plenty of soccer is still left for Martin and the Bucks.

“We want to have our best soccer ahead of us,” Martin said.
