LEROY — Pine River coach Terry Martin is wearing two different hats this summer for the Bucks.

Martin is head football coach and has been working with a summer schedule that will especially start picking up in July.

But he’s also assistant to head wrestling coach Tim Jones and was working with some grapplers last week in Pine River’s new wrestling room.

It was busy in that room this weekend.

“We just finished a team camp (in mid-June) and were at St. Ignace four days at a very good camp,” Martin said. “We took 20 kids up there. This kind of is the beginning of our twice-a-week sessions, and we go for about an hour.

“(Last week) we hosted a team camp. A bunch of our college alumni is coming. We did that Friday and Saturday morning. We follow that up with a canoe trip.”

This marks the first full summer when the wrestling room, constructed last year, has been usable.

“We had no summer wrestling last year because we didn’t have summer access to anything,” Martin said.

In July, football takes center stage. There’s already general training dates taking place.

“The month of June we kind of defer to winter sports like basketball,” Martin said.
