EVART — Dean Marsh has had another successful season in the throws for Evart’s track team.

His performances were among the reasons why Evart won the MITCA state title.

“Last year I started to progress,” he said. “Coming into this year, I’ve progressed as well.”

His best throw has been 45-6. He’s hoping to get into the 47s before the season ends. At the MITCA meet, he was fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put.

In the discus for the MITCA meet, the discus has not been his best event but he had his best throw in 129-4.

This season Marsh is at the MHSAA finals in the shot put.

“My goal this year is to hopefully finish in the top five,” he said.

Josh Decatur and Larry VanBuren have been working with Marsh on scoring a lot of points in the throws this season.

He didn’t place in either event at the MHSAA meet last season.

This year, he’s ranked 19th in shot put state qualifiers for the Division 4 meet at Hudsonville with a toss of 44-4.75 from his regional performance May 18 at Brethren.
