TUSTIN — Dennis Hyser of Marion loves his golf. It’s easy to come to that conclusion considering the amount of time he spends on the golf course during the summer.

He especially likes Tustin Trails Golf Course where he is an extremely active member. He plays in the weekly couples league and the Tuesday Webster League at the course.

“Most of the guys that play on that league are named Webster, so they call it the Webster League,” Hyser said. “They let a few of us non-Websters play.”

He also plays in the Thursday morning men’s league. It’s what Hyser calls a “show up scramble league.” Golfers show up around 8:45 a.m. and then tee off in their various groups at 9 a.m.

Hyser has played at Tustin Trails from 10 to 15 years. He attended classes at the old Tustin High School until he was a junior, then he went to Marion. He doesn’t consider himself an outstanding golfer, but he’s playing for other reasons.

“In one league I get to play with my friends and in the other one I get to play with my wife,” he said. “I just play for fun.”

He and his wife are both club members.

“This is the main place I play at,” he said, adding that he also goes to McGuire’s in Cadillac.

But when it comes to Tustin Trails, “I like the way it’s kept up and the people who run it,” he said, referring to the Kanouse family.
