REED CITY — Mady Brown had a busy summer of softball but is ready to make the transition into volleyball.

Brown and her Reed City teammates will be starting practices on Wednesday. They also had a busy summer with open gym and tournaments. She’s a junior and entering her third varsity volleyball season.

“The first year I played strictly back row,” Brown said. “Last year I moved to back row and front row player on the left. This year, I’m sure it will be the same.”

Her favorite spot is left side hitting.

“I like hitting a lot,” Brown said. “I can pretty much get to any ball wherever the set is at.”

She’s been working on both sports during the summer.

“I’m trying to get better at all aspects of the game,” Brown said of volleyball. “I’m just trying to get better.”

Brown regards herself as a “decent” server.

“I try to hit it hard to weak spots on the floor,” she said.

Her team accomplished a lot over the summer, Brown indicated.

“We’ve improved a lot as a team” she said. “I think we’ll do very good. Our team chemistry is really good.”

The season starts at the Ludington Invitational on Aug. 17.

The first home game is on Sept. 4 with Fremont in Central State Activities Association action.
