REED CITY – It was a fun turkey hunting season for the Lodholtz family.

Active hunter Howie Lodholtz of Reed City said his brother Lyle Lodholtz bagged a 24-pounder on May 1. It was Howie’s nephew Dillon’s turn on May 29 just a few days before the season ended. His bird had a 27-inch beard and was a 20-pounder.

One day later, Howie and hunting friend Terry Getts teamed up.

“We had been hunting for 14 days,” Howie said. “I hunted 25 days total this season, which was fun. On the last day, we got a 22-pound, 9 12 inch, three-quarter inch spurs. I had turned down seven birds, nice birds, and waited for this guy.”

The last day was May 31. The entire month of May was for hunters who got permits over the counter. The first two hunts in the last two weeks of April were for those who were picked at random by the DNR.
