File photoBIG RAPIDS – Brandon Wirth of Reed City had a strong meet and the Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads came away with a trio of first-place performances and had a total of 25 top-10 meet finishes at the Jim Vargo Invitational, which took place on Friday and Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
The event was hosted by Bellarmine University and included student-athletes from multiple schools at all levels across the region such as Davenport, Evansville, Kentucky State, Indianapolis, Southern Indiana, Morehead State, Thomas More, Xavier, Midway, Lawrence Tech, Transylvania, FSU, Bellarmine and others.
In men's action, FSU's Jason Keena won the javelin on Friday night with a throw of 151-0 while Wirth placed fifth overall in Friday's portion of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking 9:49.93 overall.
The Bulldogs' Noah Griffith finished fourth on Saturday in the 800-meter open (2:00.07) while Ray Lee placed seventh in the 100 meters (11.16).
Dan Hardesty of Big Rapids placed fifth overall in the 1,500-meter open race (4:03.61) with junior Donis Harris 10th (4:06.87).
