LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team has been having success with a deep lineup of talented players, and that includes senior Anna Lindquist.

She had one of her best games with 10 points against Gladwin in December 62-42 to help keep the Bucks undefeated at 5-0.

“We played really well,” Lindquist said after the win over Gladwin. “This was going to be our first real challenge of the year. We showed up and we played. We just had to step up our defense. It’s just a lot of hustle. Just do your job. If everyone does their job, we’ll be successful.”

Lindquist said her role depends on the game.

“(Against Gladwin) my job was to stay on my girl and not let her shoot,” Lindquist said.

The 10-point total was among her best outputs of the season.

“It just depends on the game,” Lindquist said.

The Bucks resume action on Friday at McBain against an opponent that could give them a serious chase for first place in the Highland.

The Bucks also play at Marion on Jan. 10 and are home Jan. 12 against McBain Northern Michigan Christian.

”I think we’ll just keep working on our defense,” Lindquist said.

Most of the team is back from last year, and the Bucks are confident they’re capable of competing against anyone they face on the court

”We just have to show up,” Lindquist said.
