REED CITY — Emily Libey is like a lot of girl basketball players who will do whatever she can during the summer to get ready for the 2016-17 season.
But Libey won’t soon forget her sophomore season this past spring on the Reed City track team. The biggest moment for Libey was when her 4x100 relay team was first in the Division 3 regional at Mason County Central in 52.75 seconds. Meghan Borst, Carmen Guy and Hanna Price also were on that team which placed 18th at the state final.
Libey ran the sprints and had PRs of 14.04 in the 100 meters and 28.73 in the 200 meters. She also ran the 4x200 and 4x400 relay.
It was her second season of varsity track. She’s been in the sport since seventh grade. She indicated there was improvement this season including faster 200 meter times.
“I have a good start,” she said late in the season. “I have to work on my good finish.”
The 4x100 relay was a special event for Libey and her teammates. The Coyotes were seeded second at regionals and Libey had high hopes of a strong finish. She got her wish. The relay team improved by several seconds from the start of the season.
“It was pretty good,” Libey said of the relay team’s season.
Libey focuses on basketball, but acknowledges track keeps in in shape.
“That’s one of the reasons I do it,” she said.
