Lewis set to spark the Bucks
LEROY — Pine River has gotten out to a 1-5 start in boys basketball action and the Bucks are looking for more success in upcoming games.
It’s a young Pine River team this year with players like junior Elijah Lewis having some of the team’s lone experience.
“(Last season) went pretty good,” he said. “There were a lot of experienced guys and we went pretty far. We won the district championship. It was really exciting.”
Last season, Lewis usually came off the bench.
“We had a good starting five and gave it a lot of energy,” he said. “It’s definitely a lot of new faces (this season). There’s only three of us that played last year.”
Lewis is expected to see plenty of action as a guard.
“I’ll play a lot of defense looking for guys who are open to score,” he said.
Lewis has exhibited his quickness in various sports including track and football. He’s hoping to show more of the same on the basketball court.
“I’m really good to get off the dribble and get to the hole and score quick baskets when we need it,” he said.
“We have a lot of big guys this year. We’ll be really big and have a lot of speed with our guards and we’ll try to get used to that. It’s going to take awhile to get in the groove of things. When we get there, it will be a good season,” Lewis said.
The Bucks are at Lake City on Thursday.
