LEROY — Elijah Lewis and other Pine River football players are getting ready for the 2017 season.

But for Lewis, a sophomore, reflecting back on the 2017 track season would bring back fond memories.

The highlight of the season came at the Division 3 state finals when Lewis placed sixth in the 400-meter dash (50.74). He was 19th in the long jump (19-4 ½) and 11th in the 200-meter dash (23:10).

Lewis was in several events this season. His personal records were 21-8 ½ in the long jump, 6-2 in the high jump and 50.74 seconds in the 400.

Top highlights for Lewis was breaking the school record in the 200 and long jump.

“It's been a very strong year,” he said. “I had a lot of great competition. It helped me to keep the momentum going forward to the state finals.”

Lewis was also in Pine River track as a freshman. He said he improved 'tremendously' from last season.

“Working in the offseason means a lot,” he said.

In the 200, Lewis' strength was “my curves, and my straightaway,” he said. “I'm good at opening up and using my strides.”

In the 400, “it's been the training I do for it,” that has made him successful, Lewis said.
