REED CITY — Emily Libey has had three impressive seasons in Reed City’s girls basketball program.

But as a senior, Libey is obviously looking for this season to be her best

The Coyotes opened their season on Tuesday at Pine River. Their next game is Dec. 5 at Cadillac. The home opener is Dec. 8 with Newaygo.

Last season was her best so far.

“I would say so,” Libey commented. “I improved on a lot of things. As a team, we grew a lot last year. We only lost one player. It’s going to help you out for the next year.”

A highlight from last season “was coming back and beating the teams we didn’t the first time,” Libey said. “We lost to Fremont and came back and beat them. “That’s a win I wanted.”

She indicated her role will basically be the same this year.

“I’ll be working more positions,” Libey said. “I’ll look to keep scoring and want to improve on my passing and defense and all of that.”

She’s been a strong 3-point shooter. “The key is know when to shoot and when not to, and knowing when to drive,” she said.

As a team, “we want to win the conference and districts,” Libey said. “I think it’s possible. We have a quick team. We do have more experience.”

Getting off to a winning start will be critical, Libey said.
