Langworthy having strong season for Pine River wrestlers

LEROY — Adam Langworthy continues to shine for the Pine River wrestling team. That continues to be very good news for the Bucks.

He’s a senior at 171 pounds. He entered recent action with a 20-4 mark.

“Since last year, it’s increased,” he said of his record. “I’ve been doing much better. I’ve been exceling. I came into Pine River wrestling came over the summer. That’s the only camp I went to. But I’ve been working hard coming to all the morning practices we have.”

At Tri County’s invitational, Langworthy recalls having some extremely competitive matches.

“I’d like to get 100 wins,” said Langworthy who, as of Jan. 17, was 22 wins from that point, but figures he’s still got enough time to get there, especially if he goes far in the state tournament. Last season, he placed eighth in the individual state finals.

“This is only my third year of high school wrestling because I could not wrestle my freshman year,” he said. “I had knee surgery last year. I got injured as a freshman.”

Langworthy plans on going back to the state finals and bidding for a higher finish.

“I’ve gotten much better at my shots,” he said. “I’m learning how to control the other opponent.”

Langworthy is trying to improve on his performance from the bottom and working on getting extra points.

“The team is looking good,” he said. “One of our team goals is to make it through team regionals to team state.”
