REED CITY - Calvin Rohde has been the top runner all season for the Reed City cross country team.

But Jared Karns has come into his own as a strong No. 2-runner for the Coyotes.

As a senior, he posted his personal record two months ago at the Benzie Central Pete Moss Invitational of 17:44.6. He's also been a strong runner in the Central State Activities Association. "I think it's been going good," he said during the season. "I need to get some harder training in."

On Saturday, he ended his season at the Benzie course with a 17:47.8 for 26th place in the Division 3 regional.

"I usually try to have the best part of my race at the end," Karns said after the Late Season Warrior Invitational at Chippewa Hills on Oct.19. "I usually try not to go out too hard too fast, then I try to have a hard finish."

The Coyotes continue to post a competitive cross country program.

"It's gone pretty good," Karns said. "The girls won the conference. The guys are going to have a lot of middle school runners coming so we're going to be really fast."
