REED CITY — Cody Kailing scored 13 points while Preston Johnson added nine and Karsten Koopman had eight in Friday’s Central State Activities Association Gold Division 57-30 win over Fremont.

Reed City entered action this week at 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league

“It’s the best game we’ve played in the two years I’ve been the coach,” Reed City skipper JJ Eads said. “Fremont is one of the league favorites and I thought we played very well.”

Reed City played at Lakeview on Tuesday.

“We’ve improved drastically from the Cadillac game,” Eads said, referring to the season-opening loss. “The Newaygo game was a shootout and we were able to pull that out. Fremont scored the first four points. The guys didn’t panic. We settled down and had a first-quarter lead.

“Fremont is battling injuries. We probably caught them on a good night for us. Defensively, we played them pretty well on Friday.”

The Coyotes will take some days off later this week and get back to practices on Dec. 27. They scrimmage on Dec. 29 at Benzie Central. The next game is on Jan. 5 at Grant in CSAA action.
