Kailing giving Coyotes major spark
REED CITY — Cody Kailing is hoping to help Reed City be at its best as the baseball team gets ready for a postseason run.
The Coyotes are scheduled to play at home on Tuesday against Cadillac and then will head to Pine River on June 2 for the Division 3 districts.
It’s Kailing’s second year of varsity ball for the Coyotes. He’s been in center field and at pitcher.
For the center field spot. Kailing had confidence in his glove and arm.
He’s also been a pitching arm coach Marty Shaffer has called upon at various times. He tries to use his diversity at lefthander to throw hitters off stride. High school hitters don’t see many lefthanders. Kailing has also been able to help the Coyotes at the plate.
“Right now, I’m hitting the ball solid,” he said midway during the season. “You just have to keep your eyes on the ball and drive it.”
As the season progressed Kailing liked what he was seeing of the Coyotes.
“We just have to stay focused,” he said. “We’re good enough to win very game.”
He’s hoping that includes the postseason as the Coyotes look to make another long run.
