LEROY — Bekah Dean is among the first-year players working to give the Pine River volleyball team a boost this season.
Dean is a junior hitter for the Bucks.
“It is really a big jump from JV with how hard they’re hitting and how intense they are,” she said. “I’m about 95 percent comfortable. I still have a little ways to go and can work on some stuff. But I’m getting there.”
Consistency is a strength, Dean indicated.
“I usually am consistent in the places I hit, but I do hit pretty hard,” she said.
As a team, “we pass and serve very well,” Dean said. “One thing that we talk about is that we’re a family. We’re not just a team. We’re a family and we’re here for each other. It’s more than just on the sport. We’re all together.”
Dean is a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and softball. Softball has been her favorite sport. She’s a pitcher. But the other sports get her in shape for volleyball, she added.
