LEROY — Tailor Charles continues to have a strong season as a junior backrow specialist for the Pine River volleyball team.

“We have improved a lot,” Charles, a second-year varsity player said, adding that “focus and working together” have been two areas of needed improvement.

High moments have included defeating Hopkins at the Cadillac Invitational and winning three times in duals against Reed City.

“We talk a lot,” Charles said. “We really focus on the game.”

Charles has been showing improvement from a year ago.

“My passing’s getting a lot better,” she said. “I’m still working on serving. I’m working on consistent passes and getting them to the spot.”

She’s also working on getting more speed on her serves and putting them in key spots, making it tougher for the defense to return them.

The Bucks hope to be playing their best by district time.

“We want to become stronger players that work together,” Charles said.

The Bucks lost recently to defending state runner-up Beal City.

“Beal’s definitely beatable,” Charles said. “We just need to know that it’s possible.”

Pine River will be in Class C district action this week at Manton.
