Hyde, Wildcats hope for speedy start

EVART — The second full week of girls basketball practices have ended for Evart’s girls basketball team and players like senior Magdalen Hyde are gearing up for the season opener later this month.

Hyde is among the key returning seniors for coach Larry Brown and hopes to be among the most reliable scorers on the team including in 3-pointers.

Two of the seniors are Chelsea Bengry and Kortney Dennis who give the Wildcats significant height inside.

“I think we’ll be a fast team,” Hyde said, adding that a key for the Wildcats to have success every time they’re out is “staying together and focusing on turnovers.”

It will be Hyde’s second full varsity season.

“I hope I improve a lot from last year,” she said.

Hyde is just coming off the volleyball season as she continues her endeavors as a three-sport athlete.

“My family says I’m best at softball,” she smiled. “I can’t tell.”

Evart opens the season at Lakeview Nov. 29 in non-league play and will later enter Highland Conference action.

“I think we’ll be up in the running with everyone else this year,” Hyde said. “We have a lot of depth right now.”
