EVART — Jacob Hopkins continues to have a good year in the high jump.

He won the regionals at 6-3 and will be in the state finals on June 1.

His best has been 6-4 3/4.

Hopkins high jumped his freshman season and this year as a junior. “I’m really happy with it. I actually got the school record,” he said. “I’m doing about how I figured.”

Hopkins is hoping for 6-6 before the season ends.

“It will take a lot of practice,” he said. “I need to work on my approach.”

Hopkins was only at 6-2 at the beginning of the season. Repetition has helped him improve to where he’s at now.

Hopkins was hoping for first in the regionals and accomplished that. Hopkins also scored points for the Wildcats in the long jump with fourth at 19-4 1/2.

Now his team will be defending its MITCA state title Saturday and hopes to do well June 1 at the MHSAA state meet in Hudsonville.
