LEROY — Pine River has a lineup of several talented wrestlers, and it includes senior Raden Holmes.

He’s coming off a strong junior season.

“It started off when I won the Mio tournament,” he said. “I started getting first at tournaments. Then it was conference and district champion, which was exciting for me. Qualifying for state was one of the best highlights of my life.”

Holmes didn’t place at state, but wants to return this season and place.

“It will take hard work and make sure I go above and beyond what I’ve been doing,” he said.

Holmes also plays baseball and football, but said he got in a lot of wrestling time during the offseason, including out of state tournaments.

As of late December, Holmes was 9-2.

Wrist fighting and overall style have been strengths, he indicated.

“I have to make sure I keep my daily runs going,” he said, “and make sure I work on my technique and not just working on getting the move done but perfecting the move.”

Pine River wrestles at Benzie Central on Wednesday.
