LEROY — Trevor Holmes returns as a productive point scorer for a Pine River boys track team that won the Highland Conference last season.

The Bucks, who hope to make a run for another title with the leadership of seniors like Holmes, were scheduled to open their season Tuesday of this week at Coleman.

It’s Holmes third year of varsity track. He played baseball his freshman year.

He was regional champ and qualified for the state finals in the 3,200-meter run last spring with a time of 10:08.5.

This season, Holmes looks at running events for the 400 and up and maybe the 200

“I want to get a low 50 and under two minutes in the 800 and run a 4:30 mile. I have to keep pushing,” Holmes said.

“I like to have good consistency but I usually have a good finish.”

Ben Ringling is also running well  in the distances, Holmes noted.

The Bucks are hoping to repeat as league champions.

“We have a few guys we have to replace,” Holmes said. “If we keep going like we have been we should give it a good fight until the end of the year.”

The Pine River Invitational is May 4. Also in May will be the Highland Conference league meet and the regionals.
