EVART — Max Hodges is among the distance runners who helped Evart win a Division state 4 title in track last season.

He’s hoping to do it again.

Hodges is back for his junior season with the Wildcats. Major highlights for Hodges as a sophomore was taking second in the regionals in the 800 and in the 3,200-meter relay and breaking the school record.

Hodges has some lofty goals for this season. He’s doing the 800, 1, 600 and 3,2000 open and 3,200-meter relay. He’s looking at a time of 1:55 for his leg in the 800 in the 3,200-meter relay, and the same thing in the 800 open. For the mile, his goal is 4:25 and in the two mile, he wants to break 10 minutes. The 800 and 1,600 will be his best events and best bets for going to the state finals.

“I’ll feel I’ll be stronger than last year,” he said. “Hopefully I can be more prepared for the two mile after I run the other event."

Distances should be strong again.

“We have a few freshmen that came up from middle school that are doing really well in the distances,” Hodges said.

Poor weather hasn’t had an impact on distance runners, he added.

“I think we have the potential to go back and win state again,” Hodges said. “We have a lot of freshmen, They’re all talented.”
