Hoaglund bidding to help the Bucks win more ballgames

LEROY — Pine River’s boys basketball team entered this week with a 9-7 record and players like Conner Hoaglund are hoping the Bucks will be playing their best basketball in upcoming weeks.

The Bucks lost recently to Reed City after playing even with the Coyotes for most of the first half.

“They just started hitting threes, hit three in a row and went into halftime down,” Hoaglund said, adding that in getting the lead earlier in the game, “we were pushing the ball up the court and getting easy looks. Right now, we’re trying to fix some stuff, but we’ll get it done.”

The key for the Bucks “is working on a little bit of everything,” Hoaglund said.

The Reed City game may have been one of the better ones for Hoaglund this season. He had a team-leading 12 points in that game.

“I was getting inside and getting easy looks,” he said, adding that he wants to improve on defense.”

This week, the Bucks are at Marion Thursday.

“We want to keep the other teams low in scoring and push the ball more and play better defense,” Hoaglund said.
