LEROY — Taylor Hill continues to play a key role for a Pine River basketball team hoping to be at its best by district tournament time later this season.

Hill was on the varsity team last year.

“I’ve improved a lot,” she said earlier in the season. “Last year, we had a pretty good team. I played here and there. But now I feel I’m more confident. My role is to rebound and score, but mainly rebounding. I boxed out pretty well.”

When it comes to offense, “I get the rebound and put it back up. I’m not really an outside shooter,” Hill said.

The Bucks have been around the .500 mark, first-year coach Brandon Bowman said.

“I think we’re doing pretty good,” Hill said. “We came out a little rough in the beginning. Then we came out OK. I think we have good chemistry together. We need to work on confidence. That’s our main thing.”

Pine River, 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the Highland, is at McBain on Thursday.
