Hill having strong freshman season for Pine River baseball

LEROY —  Luke Hill had an enjoyable season for the Pine River varsity baseball team.

He’s been on the varsity most of the season and was moved up after the first game.

“I said ‘let’s see what happens,’ I wasn’t sure how I would do,” Hill said. “I’ve been doing better than what I thought I would. I’ve been doing really good,”

Hill played third base for the Bucks and said he has a good glove and arm to first base.

Hill also has seen some pitching action. He recently threw against Lake City.

“I did well, I got the win 12-2,” he said after the game, adding the fastball has been the best part of his game. “I want to get a little quicker at third.”

Hill feels at ease being at third base despite being only a freshman.

At the plate, “I’m doing decent, I’m doing solid,” Hill said. “You have to sit back on the ball.”

The Bucks had an 11-game losing streak end during the title game of their invitational.

“We were playing really good,” Hills said.
